Richard Wein is CEO of nic.at and its sister company ipcom GmbH. To mark the tenth anniversary of Anycast service RcodeZero DNS, he talks about the product’s exciting origins, major milestones and some of the challenges along the way.
ipcom’s RcodeZero DNS Anycast service is ten years old – more than 40 servers worldwide are keeping customers’ DNS infrastructure safe.
In united-domains AG, a subsidiary of United Internet, ipcom GmbH has gained an important international registrar for its Anycast service RcodeZero DNS. The German Internet provider stands for excellent customer support and prioritises top-level security. Therefore, it is obvious that united-domains makes no compromises when it comes to security and that optimised protection of DNS infrastructure is a top priority.
Since December 2020, the RcodeZero DNS Anycast network is protected from DDoS attacks by three independent DDoS mitigation providers on a global scale. After a long evaluation phase, Klaus Darilion, Head of Operations, has chosen Cloudflare's "Magic Transit" product of different providers, because a reliable DDoS defense solution is comparable to an insurance.
The Belgian registry DNS Belgium and ipcom (sister company of nic.at) have signed a cooperation agreement. All domains managed by DNS Belgium will additionally be hosted on the RcodeZero DNS anycast network powered by nic.at. The Belgian registry is responsible for the overall management of .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels with around 1.6 million domains.
